Ulrich Schmid-Maybach (“Uli Maybach”) is the great grandson of
Wilhelm Maybach who designed the first Mercedes in 1901. His
grandfather, Karl Maybach, pioneered the development of the large diesel engines
which still power high speed German rail travel today, the famous
Zeppelin airships, as well as the luxurious line of Maybach
automobiles in the 1920’s and 30’s.
A dual national between Germany and the USA, Uli has twenty years’
experience as software and real estate entrepreneur, strategic
investor, and philanthropist. Uli earned his Bachelor’s Degree at
University of California, Davis and an MBA from the Thunderbird
School of Global Management.
Uli functioned as global brand ambassador for the 2003 re-launch of
the Maybach Saloon by the Daimler AG., and is now a founding Board
Member and Chief Strategist at Maybach Icons of Luxury, which
produces ultra-luxury eyewear and leather accessories sold
worldwide under the Maybach marquis.
Inspired by his great grandfather’s humble origins as an orphan in
1850’s Germany, Uli launched the Maybach Foundation (www.maybach.org)
in 2006 at the United Nations with the mission to mentor talent in
adversity as a means to effect positive social change. Mr. Maybach
was inducted into the Council of Mentors of the United Nations
Global Youth Leadership Network in New York on October 2006.
An avid skier and mountaineer, Uli frequently shuttles between
Europe and Asia building out his investor and philanthropic
networks. He commutes to work in an electric Smart car, but when
the stakes are high he takes the Maybach.
